In April 2003, Iraquis emerged from a long nightmare to face a future full of promise as well as uncertainty. For nearly a quarter century their land - which thousands of years ago nutured the world's first civilization - had suffered under the yoke of one of the world's most brutal dictators. But after U.S. and British forces toppled the regime of Saddam Hussein, Iraquis wondered what shape their country would take.
