Structural Wonders: Empire State Building

At 1,454 feet (443 metres), the Empire State Building set a world record as the world's tallest structure. Builders used an assembly line method for constructing the tower. This forever changed the way people raised buildings. Materials were pre-assembled off site to save time, builders worked in shifts around the clock, and construction took place on different levels of the building at the same time. The 102-story tower only took 1 year and 45 days to build.
