Madagascar is an island country off the southeastern coast of Africa. It lies in the Indian Ocean and is made up of one large island and several smaller islands. Covering 226,658 square miles (587,041 square kilometres), it is the fourth largest island in the world. In the middle of the country is Antananarivo, Madagascar's capital city.
