Malaysia is a tropical country in Southeast Asia. Its two separate regions lie about 400 miles (640 kilometres) apart across the South China Sea. The western region is Peninsular Malaysia. It sits on the Malay Peninsula. Thailand is its neighbour to the north. To the south lies the small island nation of Singapore. Southwest across the Strait of Malacca is part of Indonesia. Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia. It stands just inland from the western coast.
